The 1920's marked a breaking-off from the rigid Victorian ways and these rebellious women did away with the corset and donned silky short dresses that exposed their arms and their legs. They rolled down their stockings and put on makeup, which until the 1920's was unacceptable in society. The Roaring 20's must have been something, and I am sorry I missed it!

Something new on Etsy

Today I listed this 8 x 10 beeswax collage. It is primarily autumnal tones, and the beeswax is the natural amber color I favor. There is a lot of textural interest to this piece, and after many layers of beeswax, I added paper flowers, the "Imagine" frame, corkscrew willow and a vintage button. The collage contains vintage images, text, various papers, my hand painted water color of an owl, and a strong nod toward nursing, and wisdom . The substrate is tempered masonite. I've always loved doing works on commission for the very same reason, but when trying to decide what the customers who shop on Etsy might want, I tend to resort to my "rut". NeoVictorian Vintage Charm Bracelet

So, here is a bracelet I've assembled using a vintage brass ID bracelet, adorned with vintage and unusual buttons from my collection, as well as some found items attached to the wire wraps. Clasp is really substantial with a safety latch. Neat old bracelet! I just listed it in my Etsy shop. This really has a wonderful "sound" to it...a chunky clank which commands attention.

Neo-Victorian Assemblage Charm Necklace

This necklace was so much fun to create! I love to be as naive as possible in the rendering of a period piece, so this is done in the way I imagine a young woman of that time may have put one together. Using "charms" that were acurate for the time and a folk art style of wire wrapping, I assembled a 35" necklace using clay beads and elements, found elements, vintage buttons, vintage earrings, silk cording, etc. What fun!

I am going to begin to offer my altered books on Etsy as well as through the sales reps and gift markets. I am afraid I have lost count of special requests, and this seems to be the most fair way for me to handle these. I will begin to blog what has been recently posted in my Etsy shop "Cottage on Tabor Lake". Thank you so much for visiting here. I hope this will work out well for everyone involved. As always, I certainly welcome your comments and emails.

This current book is an homage to Elizabeth Barrett Browning, and authentic in the details one might find in a Victorian Scrapbook type art journal. Each two page spread has a Browning quote and the objects used in the collage are related to that quote. The original book is an 1898 Newark Ohio high school textbook, whose pages, as well as front and back cover are done in beeswax and encaustics.

Found objects, vintage fabrics and laces, victorian era images and ephemera, old postage stamps, cigar bands, etc. adorn these pages, which too, have been preserved in beeswax. There are 34 two page spreads and the book measures 4" x 6" x 4".
